THE POWER PLEDGE - I want my freedom and privacy

Identity cards and the growth in state databases collecting, storing and sharing our personal information threatens our personal freedom and privacy.
The ID card system will involve collecting over 50 pieces of information, including biometric information such as fingerprints.
The National Identity Register, the database to which the cards are linked, will track every significant transaction in a person's life (e.g. moving house) with financial penalties for those who don't keep the Register updated.
The ID card scheme is just one example of the ‘database state' - the large databases used by the state to manage and control us. Other examples include ContactPoint and the National DNA database.
These vast databases fundamentally alter the balance of power between the state and citizens making us all suspects to be watched and tracked by the powers that be.
What's more, they are notoriously insecure making identity theft, fraud and other abuses more likely.
