Wanted in Wells

30.03.2010 // by Poppy Villiers-Stuart

At 11.00 Sunday 28th March, 10 rugged looking Sheriffs cast a mean shadow over Market square in Wells.

They were in search of a wanted man, David Heathcoat-Amory, and were determined not to leave until his hide out was discovered and an order for his removal delivered.

Heathcoat-Amory was well-known amongst the people of Wells.

Many were keen to share stories of his wrongdoings and support the search, taking posters to put up across town.

They spoke of his championing of an archaic politics. A small number of others protested his innocence and strode away.

The Sheriffs were undeterred and pressed on grimly.

By the afternoon they had distributed 1000s of posters and had identified the location of his headquarters.

The letter was delivered, co-signed by 100s of local constituents.

The local paper Burnham-on-Sea carried a write up and a picture of the action.
