Voting discussion threads to be closed and archived

22.02.2010 // by Guy Aitchison

One of the most pleasing things about the Vote stage of this campaign has been the wide-ranging, serious and intelligent discussion taking place in the comment threads of the voting pages.

I've been following the exchanges closely.

At all times they have been open, corteous and considered, free from the kind of cynicism and partisan point scoring that triumphs in other parts of the blogosphere - a model of thoughtful deliberation, you might say.

The thread on Proportional Voting in particular is worth checking out - hundreds of comments have been posted there.

People have had their views changed as they hear the pros and cons of different ideas, and new projects and collaborations have even been launched from within these pages - exactly as we'd hoped.

Tonight, of course, is the end of the voting stage ahead of the Pledge being announced on Wednesday.

The comment threads will therefore close and the voting pages will be redirected to a new Pledge page.

But if you've taken part in the discussions, don't worry, they won't vanish the web.

They will, instead, be archived and available for reference. New discussion threads will then be provided to continue the debate on the top 5 ideas that make up the Pledge.

And I'm sure the quality of debate there will be as high as it has been in this phase of the campaign.
