Taking the campaign to the streets

04.03.2010 // by Ciaran Norris

The last two weeks have been the busiest of the campaign - so far.

Before the polls closed last week I travelled the Midlands to give the vote one last push: hitting Derby, Worcester, Sutton Coldfield, Birmingham and Coventry in the final three days.

Now we have the Power Pledge, the campaign is in its next phase: extending the public mandate.

You'll see from the activity on the website, and on the ground, that Power2010 activists have been active across the UK; getting the public to take the pledge - leading the way for the politicians to follow.

As we get closer to the General Election, which by most estimates will be on May 6th, the campaign will be spreading to more towns and cities across the country.

In the Midlands, we have our work cut out for us. Over 100 Parliamentary constituencies and 5 million eligible voters - no small challenge for the biggest region in the country.

That is why we need as many people to sign the pledge.

Whether you sign in on the website or you join other activists in getting people to sign it in public, your signature will really add weight to the campaign.

I shall be campaigning with activists in Coventry on Friday 5th March from noon, by the Lady Godiva statue in Broadgate; and in Birmingham on Monday 8th March outside the Council House in Victoria Square.

Please do come and join the campaign if you have an hour or so to spare, and even if you don't have the spare time do come and sign the pledge and make the difference.

Over the coming weeks I shall be travelling the Midlands, bringing the campaign to the streets.

In particular I shall be visiting Nottingham, Lincoln, Wolverhampton, Leicester, Derby, Stratford, Worcester, Stafford, Loughborough, Stoke-on-Trent, Birmingham, Hereford, Solihull and Coventry.

If you want to make the difference in these areas, or have any other suggestions, please do email me on ciaran@power2010.org.uk or join the Facebook group ‘Power2010: Midlands Campaign'.
