Random power?

28.01.2010 // by Guy Aitchison

There's a great blog on ConservativeHome by Graeme Archer (who tweets at @GraemeArcher) examining the idea of a random lottery system to select people for the House of Lords, an idea he first trailed (to a mixed reception!) at the Conservative Party Conference last year.

Graeme gives a nice mention for the POWER2010 Deliberative Poll as a successful example of random selection in action. Citizens "weren't fazed" by the task of choosing the best way to reform democracy, he says, and were pleased to be involved in something that could influence legislation.
