Pink Balloons across the East

17.03.2010 // by Andrew Dixon

If you are a resident of the East of England, then wherever you are over the coming months Power2010 campaigners, trailing pink balloons, will be coming to somewhere not far from you.

In the last week alone we have been in Norwich, Ipswich, Cambridge and Royston.

I've been talking to members of the public at street stalls and public meetings, talking to faith groups and campaign groups, to people of all political affiliations and none.

And the one thing on which everyone agrees is that they want to see a sea-change in the way our politics works.

People welcome the fact the public decided Power2010's priorities. The five ideas which make up the Power Pledge are those priorities.

And now Power2010 campaigners across the region are mobilising to make that change happen, signing up pledges of support and taking that message to candidates.

As Norwich campaigner Jan Haley put it "What I love about this campaign is that it's about making people matter, making their voices heard. People feel powerless to influence the decisions made by those they elect. Our democracy needs these reforms."

Here are just some of the places we'll be over the coming weeks:

Friday 19th: Luton town centre
Saturday 20th: Cambridge town centre
Saturday 27th: Ipswich and Norwich town centres

Friday 9th April:
Cambridge Wordfest Spring 2010
Saturday 10th April:
