Keep up the good work!

29.03.2010 // by Sam Wilson

"I have seen you online, keep up the good work!", "They're all as crooked as each other", "I'll sign, I really don't like politicians".

This is just a small selection of some of the memorable responses I received from members of public when we ran a street stall in the centre of Reading on Saturday.

Despite the hit and miss weather conditions, people we're happy to stop and talk with us about the POWER2010 pledge, whilst making their views on our political system very clear. In a couple of hours we had over 50 people sign the pledge with plenty of them taking away a leaflet to show to friends and family.

Before the weekend I had got in touch with the local candidates in Reading East & West and during the day we were visited by two local candidates, Ben White (Green Party candidate for Reading East) and Daisy Benson (Liberal Democrat candidate for Reading West).

Ben even came armed with a set of marigolds to clean up politics! He said:

"I am happy to support the POWER2010 campaign to clean up politics. I am pleased that the five reforms chosen by the public such as introducing proportional representation and scrapping ID cards are already Green Party policy.

I urge my opponents in Reading East to sign up to this campaign, but I fear that some of them want to carry on with dirty business as usual."

Daisy Benson, Liberal Democrat candidate for Reading West, is really behind the campaign, saying:

"There is an urgent need for reform to make restore trust in politics and people are saying if not now then when? I am backing the campaign because I want the next government to bring in a fairer voting system to make every vote count."
