27.11.2009 // by GuestThis idea comes from Daniel Leighton at Demos:
What's the big idea?:
To make the general election voting ballot more like a feedback form. Everyone obviously still has one single vote of course, and continues as is. But the ballot contains a second section also allows us to score a satisfaction rating to the previous administration's health policy, foriegn policy, economic policy etc people wouldn't have to complete it all of course, it would be entirely optional and wouldn't affect the vote in any other way. Rather it would generate masses of amazing data and give the government a neat score for performance.
Why is this idea important to you?:
Main benefits:
1. It would stop governments using the "we have a mandate" excuse and act as an important check.
2. Make people feel less frustrated with the voting system as their once-every-5-years-verdict is more meaningful.
3. Who knows? When parties win not because of their performance but rather a poor opposition (2005...) they might be a little more humble?
