05.10.2009 // by GuestThis idea comes from Pauline in Shirehampton:
What's the big idea?:
Local councillors should not belong to political parties. They should be concerned only with providing a good service to their communities. Local council members should not have any affiliation with a party but should be elected purely on their merits as public servants.
Why is this change important to you?:
It focuses effort on real public issues and away from political in-fighting. Councillors waste time in local meetings on point-scoring and debates, as in the Commons. We therefore suffer from a second, even less disciplined tier of self-serving bureaucracy. They should be accountable locally and to central government, not to a particular party.
