30.11.2009 // by Sam WilsonThis idea comes from Emily in London:
What's the big idea?:
Widespread educational outreach (beyond the usual suspects to encourage underrepresented groups to engage with and challenge our unrepresentative elected institutions).
Why's is this change important to you?:
Exposure to politics and politicians shouldn't rely on growing up in the right household, having the right teacher or proactive representative. Some fantastic work goes on in our Parliaments and elected assemblies to educate those who come to them but I imagine much more could be done to open up these experiences and opportunities to others. It's about everyone in society feeling a connection with the institutions, not just those people who already see themselves reflected in these corridors of power.
