15.11.2009 // by GuestThis idea comes from Daniel in Sheffield:
What's the big idea?:
To address the widespread apathy and disconnection from politics, and also as part of efforts to combat climate change, there need to be real efforts made to stimulate and encourage local communities to develop. This could be done in a variety of ways, but a main method should be the creation and funding of a network of small localised organisations dedicated to connecting individuals with their communities and locality.
Why is this change important to you?:
It will be impossible to expect voters to start to reconnect with the political process and come together to address collective problems such as climate change without real efforts to counteract the current culture of individualism and materialism. This can only effectively be done by engaging with people in the local area on the issues that directly effect them.
