10.11.2009 // by GuestThis idea comes from Mubeen in South London:
What's the big idea?:
Have genuine participatory budgeting at the local level where local people decide on how money is spent and what priorities are focused on.
Why is this change important to you?:
It is important as I think local government has responsibility for many of the things that really matter to people - and they often wrongly attribute these to central government. There is a local assembly and locality fund in the ward in which I live but this is a notional sum of £10,000 restricted to non essential projects. It would be great to make this a real rote to reconnect people with politics, and demonstrate why it matters.
