02.11.2009 // by Guy AitchisonThis idea come from Kevin in Doncaster:
What's the big idea?:
A devolution of power to regional government with specific responsibilities that are safeguarded by a written constitution which the UK Parliament could not interfere with without a popular referendum. It should be clear that this is a power transfer from Central Government and not a power grab from Local Government.
Why is this change important to you?:
It would bring many major decisions closer to the regions that are affected by the decisions.
Too many decisions are taken by central government without adequate input or scrutinee from the regions which are affected by the desions.
Currently only Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland have a devolved administration and England has Grand Committees of the Region. Neither are totally satisfactory as the devolution settlement can be changed by Parliament; and the Grand Committees lack the powers of the devolved institutions.
