Idea of the day: More info on what’s going on in the EU

12.11.2009 // by Guest

This idea comes from Brian in Newport:

What's the big idea?:

MEP's should be obliged to inform their constituents what is happening in the legislative processes which are transpiring in Europe. If necessary a Statutory Notice in every local newspaper or an email dossier that keeps constituents in touch with what's happening or not happening and what their "take" on the issue is.

Why is this change important to you?:

Quite frankly what happens at Westminster (except defence and taxation) now seems irrelelevant to the big issues that confront the world. Europe is the big hitter on the world stage and I feel totally disenfranchised from the process. A poignant example is the mandate to include 5% biofuel in my Diesel and the progaramme to extend this to 10%. This was done without anybody asking me and I have no realistic alternative. It is wrong because it is encouraging the production of biofuel on land badly needed for crops.
