24.11.2009 // by GuestThis idea comes from Roger in Somerset:
Tell us your big idea:
MPs should represent their constituents' views: at frequent intervals, they should be obliged to hold referendums among their constituents to find their views on the up-coming Bills. They should then be bound by these views, regardless of their own opinions. These soundings of opinion could be carried out via the Internet or by postal voting. In this way, people would once again have a real say in how they are governed.
Tell us why this change is important to you:
In my view, party politics and the "whipping" system has virtually killed democracy in this country. With the new European Constitutuin now in place, vital decisions are getting ever more distant from the people, and thus people are losing interest in politics. Ultimately, this could lead to a system little better than that in the Soviet Union.
