20.10.2009 // by Guy AitchisonThis idea comes from Rebecca in Aberystwyth:
What's the big idea?:
A proper Parliament for Wales - along the lines of the Scottish Parliament - with full law-making powers.
Why is this change important to you?:
The Welsh Assembly and National Assembly for Wales have achieved a great deal for Wales; they are making policy that suits the circumstances, and they are doing so in an incredibly open way that really involves civil society. However, it is a halfway house, and it needs full powers to be able to serve the people of Wales effectively.
The pantomime of having to request powers from Westminster is proving to be unwieldy and divisive, and is, in effect, devolving power AWAY from Wales by allowing MPs in Westminster a veto over what the Welsh Assembly Government can or can't do. The sooner the better!
