Durham Lib Dem candidate signs the Power Pledge

23.03.2010 // by Kelly Smith

Carol Woods, Lib Dem candidate for the City of Durham constituency, came down to the Power2010 street stall in Durham Market Place today to sign the Pledge and express her support for reforming our broken politics.

Carol, who is pictured below with me and a member of the public showing support for the Pledge, was really positive about 4 of our 5 reforms and feels very strongly about introducing a proportional voting system.

The windy weather didn't seem to deter anyone and we managed to get over 70 signatures in an hour and a half - proof that the people of Durham are as excited about seeing a change in our political system as we are!

The response from local residents and students was overwhelmingly positive and it was fantastic to talk to so many people who were keen to support the campaign, especially on our first official street stall in the North East.

Over the coming weeks we'll be in Teesside, Newcastle, Tyneside, Northumberland and back in Durham again, and our next stall will be in Middlesbrough this Saturday. We're really hoping to see a similar response throughout the rest of the region, and to gain as much support as we can to help clean up our democracy.
