There is a common idea in many of the suggestions. Parliament should be controlled by MP's and not central government. Central government is for the administration of the country, not to control our political processes. Many of our woes and political dissatisfaction has arisen from government diktats which would have had no chance of realisation had the collective intellect of Parliament had a voice. This would go a long way to redressing the gross imbalance between the will of the population and the will of governement (which should coincide, but doesn't.)

"It is undemocratic that a body responsible for holding the government to account and representing the interests of the country as a whole should be dominated by government". Absolutely! It's a circular arguement which helps cement the stanglehold of government over those elected to hold them to account.

See also the issue on Select Committees - an attempt to make the current system work, uterly neutered by government's ability to ignore any inconvenient recommendations.
