We need an elected second chamber, elected but with a limited number seats reserved for the goverment. The ppresent system ofhanding out seats in the Lords for any political hack, and inparticular the automatic elevation of all former cabinet ministers to the peerage, is ludicrous.

I'm not sure about a ban on MPs ever becoming Lords. But it should only be on merit, not just because for instance youv'e been PM or Speaker.
