Candidates sign up across the East of England

30.03.2010 // by Andrew Dixon

Another busy week for Power2010 in the East of England. Power2010 campaigners have been out and about recently in Luton, in Cambridge, in Ipswich and Norwich, talking democratic reform.

If you've tried engaging people in a conversation about democratic reform, then ‘shoot them all' and ‘get rid of the lot of them' will probably be responses you're familiar with!

Hardly surprising either, as another week brought more revelations of politicians behaving disgracefully. But Power2010 exists to change this. And what's rewarding about this campaign is the incredibly positive response we get wherever we go.

‘My constituents aren't concerned about these issues', has been the age-old response of MPs opposing democratic reform.

In which case, they've obviously never asked them. Because we do. And, even in this less-than-lovely weather, it's incredible how many people are willing to stop and sign the Pledge and how many people nod their head in agreement as they read through the five big ideas.

Barely a day goes by without another prospective candidate joining them and signing the Pledge.

In Cambridge, Julian Huppert (Lib Dem) and Peter Burkinshaw (UKIP) had already made clear where they stood and signed the pledge. When we bumped into Green Party candidate Tony Juniper (below) he was more than happy to join them.

In Luton, we bumped into independent Luton South candidate Joe Hall who was happy to sign up on three of the five

.

And in Norwich South Adrian Ramsay (Green) and Liberal Democrat candidate Simon Wright (below) have declared their support and signed the pledge.

And we're not stopping there. We'll be out talking to voters, to other local groups and to candidates in the coming weeks ahead.

So why not join us?

Here are just some of the places we'll be in the near future:

Thursday 1st April: Luton, George Street
Saturday 3rd April: Ipswich

Friday 9th April: Cambridge Wordfest Spring 2010
Saturday 10th April: Cambridge Wordfest Spring 2010
