Bridging the political divide…

01.12.2009 // by Guy Aitchison

POWER2010 is a movement that aims to bridge across the political divides, so that people of all different shades of opinion, can (hopefully!) come together on the fundamental principles of how our democracy should work.

This commitment to pluralism is perhaps nowhere better illustrated than in the decision of two very different groups, who disagree on practically everything else, to come on board and support the campaign and share their ideas.

The first is the small state, low taxes pressure group, the Taxpayers' Alliance who urge their members to get behind a power for voters to recall MPs and reforms to increase transparency over public spending.

On the other side of the spectrum are the TPA's staunchest critics, the *Other* TaxPayers' Alliance, who want "fairer taxes not lower taxes" and argue for reforms for POWER2010 which would prevent people with non-domicilied tax status from being politicians in the UK and extend the Freedom of Information Act to cover private companies contracted to provide public services.

The Taxpayers' Alliance and the *Other* Taxpayers' Alliance united on the need to reform our democracy? That's when you know the system has serious problems!
