05.10.2009 // by GuestThis idea comes from John in London:
What's the big idea?:
That disabled people and other vulnerable citizens are given an equal opportunity to participate in society through accessible consultations.
Why is this change important to you?:
Here in Hackney many disabled and other vulnerable people have been denied the right to walk in our local parks because Hackney Council decided to convert all the footpaths into mixed cycling/walking paths. This followed a consultation exercise in which the Council consulted the local cycling campaign group and er ... a few local residents ... and that's about it. Devolving power is good, but not if it is devolved to a group of people intent on denying rights and freedoms to those more vulnerable than themselves.
