1000 pledges signed

24.02.2010 // by Ghazal Tipu

After 4500 submissions and 100 000 votes, the POWER pledge has today been revealed. It's all got off to an energetic start with 1000 people signing within just an hour. Many have submitted reasons for signing the pledge, highlighting that they are eager for change.

Here is a selection of their comments:

"Fantastic. That is my dream line up. We can and must drive this to the core of government"

"It's time government served the will of the people and not the other way around"

"I support the pledge because it is the people's voice"

"Our democracy is suffering. These pledges will drive towards something better for our country"

It is not necessary to sign up to all 5 reforms but to a majority of 3. POWER2010 is a people's campaign so there is an opportunity to opt out of some of the reforms.

People may not agree with all 5 however, but they are still in support of the pledge as a whole:

"Although I may not agree with every pledge, I think that they deserve to be discussed in parliament as so many people have voted on them"

"I support all reforms in principle. However, I am unsure about English MPs voting for English Laws. In my view, it would be better to devolve power either to, or within England"

"Renewing and reinvigorating UK democracy requires bold and decisive action, and implementing the POWER Pledge would represent an excellent start to that process. Although I am not opposed to ID cards, I strongly endorse the other four reforms as part of a process of constitutional renewal and reform, and will support whatever political party undertakes to bring this about"
